steve, we have good looking traffic most of these places. this is a look at 80 westbound it looks nice getting out to the mccarthur maze. as you drive to the bay bridge toll plaza it is light. traffic does look good coming out into san francisco. now we do have ktvu allie rasmus on the scene of a fatal crash on interstate 680 in pleasanton. >> reporter: it will have a big impact on traffic for drivers going from the east bay to south bay. all four lanes of interstate 680 southbound just before stone ridge drive shut down to traffic completely as chp investigates an accident that involves a pedestrian and a vehicle. fatal accident. you can see chp has all their flairs here. this was not a hit and run. it appears the driver involved in this has been talking to or being interviewed by chp investigators off to our right you can see what appears to be the car involved and tow truck just behind it. they might be moving the process along and starting the

process of removing the vehicle involved in this. this happened at 4:00. if we turn the camera around do a 180 here you can get a good look at the backup. the backup goes all the way from stone ridge drive where the accident happened to the 580-680 interchange. some of the vehicles have be here for an hour. they have turned off their enjoins. they dantean have their lights on-- they dantean have their lights on. 580 is the detour you should take. they are diverting traffic from 580 so you can exit foothill road and take some of the surface streets around stone ridge mall in fact so you can get around this accident on 680 and get back on to 680. i spoke briefly to the chp officers on the scene here. they don't know when the freeway will reopen. we have been told a coroner is on the way to the scene to move the process along and chp investigates this fatal

accident that happened. pedestrian verses a vehicle on interstate 680. live on interstate 680 allie rasmus. time now 5:02. we are also following developing news as we speak. several east bay agencies investigating an officer involved shooting in hayward. tara moriarty is the only reporter at the scene. what do you know tara? >> reporter: we've been able to gather some information from hayward police. this is the scene of a deadly confrontation between hayward police officer and a suspect. that suspect now shot and killed. if you take a look behind me here, you can see the gas station. there is a dark colored sedan riddled with bullet holes. we believe that is the suspects car. now we don't know if the officer was injured. but it appeared an balance took him away from the scene. we understand he will be able. deare near tennison road and mission boulevard. police are not releasing too

many vehicles at this point. crime technician was examing evidence inside the officers car. nowing to witnesses the gun tire started around a canner from here. a worker there said he heard a beerage of gunfire and then motorcycles peeling out of the parking lot. several officers are assisting with the investigation. we have hayward pd here, bart police, union city. and this intersection back here live near mission and tennison will be shut down for most of the morning as police continue with their investigation. we'll let you know when the coroner arrives. we have counted at least ten patrol cars here on scene and lieutenant is going to be meeting us shortly. we'll give you more information as it becomes available to us. live from hayward i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. this morning a former principal of santa clara

montague elementary school is scheduled to be arraigned on drug charges. ktvu channel 2 reporter janine de la vega is out at the school where students will be given letters informing the parents of the information. >> reporter: that principal here will have a lot of explaning to do to students and authorities. check out what it says to the wall behind me. at the end of the day be ready to say i'm proud of what i did today. now eric dean lewis the principal is expected to be arraigned in court this morning on felony drug charges. a spokesperson from the department of justice says their drug task force received a tip lewis was involved in drugs and used a dating website. an under cover agent set up -- he was arrested on friday after offering the agent drugs. they found methamphetamine, ghb pills and scales inside his home. >> there are no connections here at montague. i'm sure the kids will be

disappointed but they will move on and we will focus them back on their learning. >> reporter: school officials have placed lewis on unpaid administrative leave and already named an interim principal. lewis was the principal here for the past seven years and we're told by parents he was involved in antidrug dare programs. he's charged with the offer to furnish drugs and possession of drugs. we are told if he is convicted, he could face five years or more in prison. he is expected to be arraigned sometime today. reporting live from santa clara janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. time now just about 5:06. overnight news police in antioch investigating a fatal shooting. police rushed to call the man was lying in the street near sycamore drive and lemon tree way. police have few leads at the moment. some of the residents say there have been a lot of shootings on their streets. they also say the gangs also easy access to guns are a major

problem. san francisco police will hold a town hall meeting to talk about the public's concern surrounding a recent police shooting. that meeting is set for 11:30 at the corner stone church on 17th street. now it follows last thursday's police shooting on 14th street. four officers were in the area and saw two people they thought were gang members. when an officer tried to talk to one of the men, he ran. police say the suspect began to raise a gun at the officer and that is when police shot and injured the suspect. the shooting has sparked several protests in the mission district. an friday night demonstrators threw paint and smashed windows at banks and stores. they also damaged the mission police department and that forced the police department to increase patrols in the area in the mission district. our time now 5:07. firefighters in southern california battling two wild fires this morning. one in river side county.

a little system cranking up a westerly breeze. 60s and 70s and 80s. some inland temps still a little warm. this morning interstate 880 traffic is moving along pretty well as you drive past the cool receive yule north and southbound there. also the morning commute at the bay bridge toll plaza looks pretty good. it's not doing all that poorly getting into san francisco. now we do have some -- let's go back to the desk. >> thank you. time now 5:29. sal was just about to tell you we have breaking news a fatal accident that happened on 680 at pleasanton. ktvu allie rasmus is there with the latest details and how the commute is effected now. good morning, allie. >> reporter: this happened at 4:00 and now an hour and a half later we are finally starting to see a little bit of movement. as you mentioned this happened on interstate 680 southbound just before stone ridge drive. just in the last five minutes we've seen some of the chp

officers move some of the flairs out of these lanes. that is because they will open the far left shoulder of 680 south at stone ridge. so they will be letting one lane of cars pass through this accident scene. and we showed you about half an hour ago all these cars that had their engines off and lights off because they have been waiting here for an hour. now you can see the chp officers getting ready to lead some of these cars. they will let them pass one lane the far left shoulder of interstate 680 to get around this accident. this was all closed off up until right now. you see the first car actually being led by chp through this accident scene because of an accident involving a car that hit a pedestrian. it happened at 4:00 again southbound 680 just before stone ridge drive. chp is investigating what happened. they don't have all the details yet but they know the person that died is a male victim and investigators believe he just wondered on to the highway. we don't know if that man was impaired or under the

influence. that is all part of the investigation that is under way right now. it happened at 4:00 this morning. driver involved is cooperating with investigators. there is a tow truck parked right in front of that vehicle that has been here since the last half hour or so. that car will likely be towed away as evidence in this fatal accident investigation. but in the meantime the backup was stretching from stone ridge drive almost to al costa. we talked to a lot of drivers that were stuck out here for the last hour and 20 minutes including a flight attendant at san jose airport who had to call their airline. >> and this is my last flight. i'm retiring. so yes this is very surprising. no, this doesn't happen every day. i'm just happy i'm not the one involved. >> reporter: back out here live you can see traffic is no longer at a complete standstill. there is one lane of cars chp leading them through on the far

left shoulder around this accident scene. now chp doesn't have an estimate yet on when the freeway will be completely reopened. last check we were told that the chp was waiting for the coroner to arrive. there is a tow truck here as well. they are in the stages or in the process of clearing this accident scene but in the meantime you can get all around this by taking 580 westbound at that interchange just before this accident scene. you can take foothill road and use some of the surface streets to get back on 680 here. there is one lane of traffic moving on the far left shoulder. again that is development just in the last ten minutes. live on interstate 680 allie rasmus. we continue to follow developing news out of hayward where a police officer shot and killed a suspect the fatal shots were fired in the area of tennison road and mission boulevard.

that police shooting came after another shooting at the dirty bird lounge. less than a mile away. police are not releasing many details but we understand the officer is is okay. also this morning a 21-year- old man is in critical condition after being shot outside a san lorenzo market. a group of men confronted the victim as he was leaving the save rite market yesterday afternoon. a fight broke out. several shots were fired. the suspects fled the scene. time is 5:33. some shocking drug charges against an elementary school principal in the south bay. janine de la vega is outside montague elementary. you have more on last week's arrest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. school will begin in a few hours. what it does students will be greeted by a new interim principal. parents are shocked at what the former principal is accused of. he's been the principal here

for the past sen years. now he is facing felony drug charges. officials say they received a tip lewis was involved in drugs. they had an under cover agent contact thrill through a website and set up a meeting at the santa clara train agent. we were told by some parents that lose was well respected. >> if you do something like this, you're going to don soon ore or later get caught. >> reporter: since lewis' arrest, school officials have placed him on unpaid administrate i-- administrative leave. we are told he was involved in the antidrug program here. we are also told by the school that letters will be sent home with students today explaning to parents what happened.

now we are expecting that lewis is supposed to be arraigned in court sometime today. reporting live from santa clara janine de la vega. time is 5:35. that fire on august 6th sent more than 15,000 people to hospitals for various forms of treatment. tonight residents will hear from county health officials, air quality officials, and the environmental protection agency. that meeting will be held at the richmond memorial auditorium civic center plaza. the door opens up at 5:15. federal investigators want to know who knew about a bypass pipe that was used at chevron's richmond refinery. the chronicle is reporting the epa has begun a critical investigation. that is after inspectors say they found a pipe inside the refinery that routes hydrocarbon gases around the

pollution monitoring equipment. inspectors say surveillance tapes show gases flaired from that pipe at least 27 times without being monitored. >> it's careless of our health in other words. in the most literal sense. they do not care about us. the citizens who live around them. and i find that rep hencable. >> chevron said that pipe was for balancing pressure. regulators are not going along with that explanation. they fined chevron $170,000. the epa investigation is not connected to last months refinery fire. san mateo police have made an arrest in a recent child abduction case on friday police say a man tried to kidnap a fine-year-old girl near parkside elementary school. 25-year-old bradley mrozek has been arrested in connection to the case. they also linked him to two other incidents in san mateo at

horrall elementary and bayside stem academy. now we know the name of an airport worker that died at sfo after his truck crashed into a private jet over the weekend. he is identified as 60-year-old ong of daily city. airport officials say they are investigating what may have caused that crash. jury selection is scheduled to begin this morning in the trial of a former san francisco police crime lab technician accused of stealing cocaine. 61-year-old debra madden faces the maximum sentence of four years in prison if convicted. she stole campaign from the lab's drug analysis unit. the oakland housing authority taking preapplications for section eight housing. the list opened up at midnight, it will close down on friday. there are 8,000 spots open. applicants do have to apply

mission boulevard at tennison. and obviously mission boulevard one of the busiest roads in the east bay. there is a big closure here in hayward. just the area to be avoided is mission boulevard right near tennison road. right from n front of the arkos station. this is where the shooting happened. tara moriarty is there she is going to tell us more about what has been happening. she has been out there since very early this morning. let's go out and take a look at this crash we have on 680 southbound. we have a closure at 580 because of a fatal crash that happened just before 4:00 this morning involving a pedestrian. these are live pictures now of the freeway. some traffic is getting by on the far left hand shoulder of 680 southbound just before the stone ridge exit. but obviously the rest of the freeway is blocked.

time now 5:55 two roseville police officers on paid leave after one of them shot and killed a suspect. the officer shot the man after responding to a domestic disturbance call. the man appeared to be intoxicated and he had a baseball bat. the officer said he opened fire when the man tried to fight his partner. so far we don't know the man's name. governor jerry brown signed several bills into law including a bill to curb under age drinking on party buses. he also signed bills strengthening gasline safety laws, allowing nurses to prescribe birth control pills, and women receiving better cancer treatments. he also extended a low to allow courts -- they want the governor to

sign a labor protections bill. the bill was passed by the state legislature last month. it would give child care providers care givers, and housekeepers meal and rest breaks. it would also make them eligible for overtime pay. a historic comedy club in san francisco's north beach neighborhood is set to close its doors today. the owners of the purple onion say everything in the club will be auctioned off tomorrow morning following a marathon event tonight featuring 25 comics. the owners say its lease was not renewed. after 45 years of service, the lumiere theater had its final show. the theater was forced to shut down yesterday after losing its lease. but the five employees who worked at the theater won't lose their jobs. they will now work for other theaters in the city owned by the same company. let's quickly go to sal. major messes on 680 and elsewhere. >> we do have 680 is closed at -- actually not closed but almost all the freeway closed
